No Subcontractors
Our crew, start to finish
We overbuild. That's the simplest way to put it. Most contractors in the Willamette Valley cut corners on drainage, and in a valley that gets as much rain as ours, that's a mistake you'll pay for down the road. Every retaining wall we build gets a minimum 6-inch compacted gravel base, a drain pipe with outlets no more than every 40 feet, and a full crushed rock drain column behind the wall. We build every wall to meet or exceed manufacturer recommendations. No exceptions.
We start every project with an on-site visit. We walk the property with you, talk through the design, discuss whether you need steps to get from the lower level to the upper level, and figure out if a fence or guardrail makes sense for your situation. If your wall is going to be over 48 inches, it needs to be engineered. That's code, not a suggestion. But here's what we do differently: before you spend money on engineering, we give you a realistic budget number. We've built enough walls that we can pretty accurately predict what an engineer is going to require and what it's going to cost. If you want to move forward, we get the engineering done (that typically takes one to two weeks) and then we submit a final estimate for your approval. No surprises.
What Does Retaining Wall Installation Cost in Vancouver?
Most Vancouver homeowners invest between $40 to $90 per face sqft for a complete retaining walls project. Final cost depends on area size, material selection, and site preparation needs.
Key cost factors:
- • Wall height and length
- • Geogrid reinforcement requirements
- • Engineering and permit needs
- • Site access and excavation difficulty
- • Material selection (specialty block runs $90-$120/sqft)
Most of our retaining wall projects fall in the $20,000 to $45,000 range. The price range is wide because every wall is different. A 3-foot garden wall on flat ground with easy truck access is a completely different project than an 8-foot engineered wall on a hillside where we're hauling material by hand. We'll give you a clear number once we see your site.
Get a Precise QuoteWhy Choose Retaining Walls?
Turn Unusable Slopes Into Level Space
A tiered retaining wall system can convert a steep hillside into multiple flat terraces: usable yard, patio space, garden beds. In Portland's west hills and Lake Oswego, this can double your functional outdoor square footage.
Stop Erosion Before It Causes Damage
Uncontrolled erosion undermines foundations, floods basements, and destroys landscaping. A properly engineered wall with drainage behind it controls water flow and keeps soil where it belongs. Prevention costs a fraction of repair.
Engineered for Oregon Conditions
Our walls include drainage aggregate and perforated pipe behind every course. In a region that gets 40+ inches of rain annually, hydrostatic pressure is the primary failure mode for retaining walls. We design for worst-case saturation.
Residential to Commercial Grade
Same materials and methods we use on commercial projects through PacWest Retaining Walls. Belgard, Pavestone, and Allan Block systems rated for structural loads. Your residential wall gets commercial-grade engineering.

How It Works
From consultation to completion: a seamless experience
Site Evaluation & Engineering
Alex assesses the slope, soil conditions, water flow, and load requirements. Walls over 4 feet require stamped engineered plans. We coordinate with licensed engineers and handle permit applications.
Excavation & Drainage System
We dig a trench below grade for the base course, install drainage aggregate and perforated pipe, and establish the drainage exit point. The drainage system is arguably more important than the wall itself.
Wall Construction
Blocks are laid course by course with geogrid reinforcement at engineered intervals. Each course is checked for level and batter (the slight backward lean that resists soil pressure). Backfill is compacted in lifts.
Cap, Backfill & Grading
Cap blocks are adhesived in place, final backfill is graded and compacted, and topsoil is placed for landscaping. We grade the area above and below the wall to direct surface water away from the structure.
